Course Overview

Please note this is an online course organized by The Economic Society through Zoom. Although the course will be taught in Arabic, all the material and handouts are written in English.

Stata is a popular and powerful statistical software. It is one of the most commonly used software in many disciplines including Economics, Management, Finance and Accounting. This course will provide participants with an introduction to data management in Stata, focusing mainly on the application and practical examples.

Course Agenda

The course runs over a total of 8 hours, with 4 hours each day with a Q&A session on the second day.

Session 1: An introduction
• Main windows and layouts,
• Standard commands to summarize your data,
• Producing basic graphs like histograms,
• The log file, the do file
• Where to find additional resources and help
Session 4: Reporting the Results
• Export regression output commands
• Save and edit graphs
• Produce publications quality reports in Word, Excel or Latex
Session 2: Managing Data
• How to manage a dataset
• Merging and appending datasets
• Reshaping data
• Generating and Change variables
• Commands for simple statistical analyses
Session 5: Introduction to Programming
• Macros and loops
• If. . . else
• Arguments
Session 3: Regression and Graphs
• Setting up a time-series or panel dataset
• Graphs [e.g., scatter plots and linear fits]
• More advanced operation via user-written codes

• Ask your questions
• Bring your data
Prerequisites

Prerequisites

A basic statistical knowledge (descriptive statistics, linear regression) but it is not required. Experience in Stata is not required.
